Had the chance to test the 2025 A40 at the quarry. Handles rough ground about as well as you'd expect from Volvo. The suspension and the ergonomics help a ton on long shifts, less tired at the end of the day. The big win for me is the real-time display in the cab, lets you keep an eye on stuff without fiddling with old buttons and dials. One gripe, I wish they’d figure out a better way to tweak the seating - it’s adjustable but never feels perfect for tall drivers. Reliability hasn’t been an issue so far. Didn’t see the pricing, but it’s probably not gonna be cheap given all the gear inside. Maintenance looks on par with older Volvos, so that’s fine.

I've driven many buses, and the Volvo 8900 Electric stands out mainly for its advanced design and electric capabilities. I had the chance to try its shorter 12.3-meter version. First off, the seating layout with 43 seats is comfortable for passengers, though I felt the overall assembly weight at 20.6 tons slightly noticeable during maneuvering. The electric motor provides smooth performance, but I wish the charging port placement options were more universal. Overall, it has potential.

Just had a stint driving the Volvo 8900, and overall it's a decent setup. The low floor in city variants is convenient for quick passenger boarding, but I found the moderate height in the intercity version a bit cumbersome in certain schedule-tight scenarios. The diesel engine does its job, but it could offer a touch more power when fully loaded. Comfortable seating makes longer routes more pleasant for passengers.

Been running haulers for 20+ years. The A40 Electric ticks a lot of boxes for me. Battery is 350 kWh and Volvo say runtime is about 4-4.5 hrs in most jobs, up to 7 hrs if conditions are easy. Fast charging 350 kW gets 20-80% in around an hour, so you can keep a shift going if you plan charging slots. Cab is quiet with low vibration, better visibility and guided entry - actually makes long stints less tiring. Service access from the ground and claims of reduced wear sound good; less time on service stands is a real win. Controls feel modern too: Dynamic Drive, 100% diff locks, energy recovery on the retarder - all help on steep, loaded runs. Mixed feelings only about charging infrastructure - you need DC chargers on site or you’ll be stuck.

The charging options are flexible, but planning for prolonged tasks needs attention. A minor inconvenience is the charging station setup requiring specific compatibility. Still, it's a progressive step.
